Skin tone is the natural color of the skin. It is the amount of melanin under the skin which is responsible for darkening of skin. Skin tone is an important parameter in deciding which foundation and lipstick to be applied on the face. It can also be helpful in deciding the hair color which works best according to your skin. Fitzpatrick scale in helpful in finding your skin type. The paler you are, lower is your skin type.
Find your true skin tone type
1) Pale, porcelain or ivory skin
The skin does not tan easily and is burnt easily. People with this skin tone are likely to have light blonde or red hair and blue or green eyes. They should wear at least SPF 30 every day.
2) Fair, beige or cream-colored skin
The skin usually burns in the sun and its tanning is difficult. Wide range of hair colors can be by people of this skin tone and they also have wide range of eye colors. They should wear at least SPF 30 every day.
3) Light brown, golden, or olive skin
Skin will gradually tan and sometime it will burn. They have wide range of hair colors and dyes. The people with this skin tone should wear every day SPF 30.
4) Caramel, tanned, or medium brown skin
This type of skin will burns rarely and will tan easily. Likely to have hazel or brown eyes and dark colored hair. People with this skin tone should wear SPF 15 every day.
5) Bronze or rich brown skin
The skin gets tanned easily and does not burn. People with this skin tone are likely to have dark hair and hazel colored eyes. They should wear SPF 15 when they are outside.
6) Mahogany, espresso, or black skin
The skin of people with this skin tone tans very quickly and never burns. They are likely to have dark colored hair and hazel to light brown colored eyes. These people should wear SPF15 when outside in the sun.
Are you warm or cool?
Every person has an inherent tone for their skin. They can be either ‘warm’ or ‘cold’ according to their skin tone. Two tests can be performed to look for your skin tone:
i) Hold a white plain sheet of paper next to your face. It the tone appears yellow then you are fall under the category of warm skin tone and if it appears pink then you fall under the category of cool skin tone.
ii) Stand directly under the sun and look at your skin around your wrist. If the veins under your skin appear green colored then you have warm skin tone and if the veins appear blue then you have cool skin tone.
Pick the season of your skin
i) Clear contrast means that you have high contrast between between the colors of skin, eyes and hair. You might have translucent skin.
ii) Muted contrast means that you have less contrast and have ashy tones.
